The Port Operations Research and Technology Centre at Imperial College London was established in 2005 as a research centre serving the port sector and associated industries on operational, strategic, economic, and technology issues. The centre is comprised of academics, postgraduate students and external professionals with a focus on the port and shipping industries. The expertise assembled among our group enables us to offer a focused range of research and consultancy services.

The PORTeC team also provides teaching for the MSc in Transport and the MEng course in Civil & Environmental Engineering at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering,  as well as the MBA courses at the Imperial College Business School.

05/04/2012 Thalis Zis has been awarded a travel grant that will facilitate a visit to the National University of Singapore (NUS). While in Singapore, Thalis will be working closely with Prof. LC Tang on the operational aspects of energy consumption in port environments.
21/06/2011 PORTeC is participating in the C-LIEGE project, financed by the "Intelligent Energy - Europe" programme of the EC's Executive Agency for Competitiviness and innovation (EACI). C-LIEGE will run for 30 months and will focus on Clean Last Mile Transport and Logistics Management.

02/05/2011 PORTeC agrees to work with SiTI, Turin, on the development of a container assignment model as a basis for predicting the demand for an inland container depot by Genua.
06/04/2011 PORTeC held the 1st PORTeC workshop on the Future of Automated Container Terminals at Imperial College London. With over 90 delegates from around the world, the workshop featured presentations from academics and senior members of the industry. The event is going to return in 2012, with more details to be announced later this year.
